For the second time, the XXII Olympic Games will be held in Russia - the 1980 Summer Olympics took place in Moscow, and the resort town of Sochi won the right to hold a winter sports festival with the same number. There is still a year and a half before this event, but the organizing committee of the competition is already providing enough information to get an idea of what will happen at the Sochi Olympics.
The most important thing in the program of the Winter Olympic Games is, of course, the competition of the best athletes of the planet in 15 sports. The first competitions will be held on February 8, 2014 - on this day, the first five sets of medals will be played. One of them will be played by skaters at the Adler Arena in the Sochi Olympic Park, and all the rest will be divided among skiers in Krasnaya Polyana: in the ski jump complex "Russkiye Gorki" - double-athletes, in the extreme park "Rosa Khutor" - freestyle masters in the complex "Laura" - specialists in cross-country skiing.
In total, from 8 to 22 February, 84 sets of medals will be played at the Sochi Olympics, and the competitions will be held in 17 newly built and modernized sports facilities, divided into two clusters - "mountain" in Krasnaya Polyana and "coastal" in Sochi and Adler. Gorny includes five facilities for outdoor competitions, as well as an "Olympic village" on the Psekhako ridge for 11,000 athletes and a "media village" for journalists. The six ice rinks and arenas of the coastal cluster will host ice skating, hockey and curling competitions. The main Olympic village will also be located here.
In addition to sports competitions and award ceremonies, according to the official program, there will be two obligatory and always the most colorful and carefully prepared events - the opening and closing of the competition. The solemn passage of the participants with the flags of the countries, as well as the lighting of the Olympic flame, will take place the day before the first starts - February 7, 2014. The closing ceremony of the sports festival, the presentation of the city of the next, XXIII Winter Games, and the handover of the Olympic flag to it will take place the day after the presentation of the last set of medals - February 23rd.
There is no doubt that these days in Sochi will be organized and large non-sporting events - concerts of popular artists. But it will be possible to learn more about this part of the Olympic holiday later, nevertheless, there is still a whole year and a half before the Winter Olympics in the Russian resort.
