Over 17 days, 98 record sets of awards will be played in competitions in 7 different Olympic sports. The Games will be attended by 6,000 athletes and team members from 85 or more countries. The sports program of the XXII Olympic Winter Games set an absolute record not only for the total number of competitions, but also for the number of new types that were included in the program. In total, the sports program includes 12 new types of competitions.
The 2014 Winter Olympics program includes 15 winter sports disciplines, including 6 skiing, 3 skating, 2 bobsleigh and 4 individual sports. 69 competitions will take place at the facilities in the mountain cluster, and 29 in the coastal cluster. The skiing competition program has been significantly expanded.
For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, not only men, but also women will participate in ski jumping competitions. The organizers also included popular sports among young people in the program. There will be 8 types of snowboard and freestyle competitions (4 in each), including snowboard slopestyle, ski slopestyle, ski halfpipe and parallel slalom in snowboard.
Spectators will be able to enjoy the fascinating spectacle of team competitions in disciplines such as figure skating, luge (relay) and biathlon (mixed relay). For the first time, both men and women will participate in the relay races.
