Often, walking and mountain bikes have a gear shifting problem. Sometimes you have to adjust this weak spot even after buying a bike. You will be very lucky if your bike is properly adjusted to the speed. If not, you can do it on your own.

Instructions

Step 1

Here are some specific steps you can take to adjust the derailleur on your bike yourself: First, set the derailleur to the very first speed. Turn the bike over, i.e. put it on the steering wheel and seat. Next, clean the shifter from dirt (grass, dust).

Step 2

Using the "Lo" or "-" screw, adjust the position of the shifter so that it is close to the plane of the 1st speed gear. To achieve this effect, simply twist it slowly and check the position from above. If there is a shift of 1 mm, then this is acceptable. It will be harder to change gear though

Step 3

Here's what to do next: Do not tighten the gearshift cable too much. Make it sag. And, at the same time, check that the first speed is set. Next, switch the speed to the highest and make sure that it goes to the lowest (smallest) sprocket.

Step 4

Place the chain on the top (largest) sprocket on the front pedal block. Adjust this position with the screw labeled "Hi" or "+". Do this to ensure that the two sprockets are in the same plane.

Step 5

After completing all this, check how the gear changes. If still unsatisfactory, it means that you have incorrectly adjusted the high gear screw. If you switch to 1st speed and the chain flies off the carriage, the first gear screw is to blame. Try to fix it again.

Step 6

Best of all, of course, take your bike to a specialist workshop. Now such an adjustment costs a penny, but it will save you a lot of time, effort and nerves. In addition, if you have a warranty card after buying a bike in a specialized store, feel free to contact there!
