In order to adjust the brakes on your bike, it is absolutely not necessary to contact a repair service, it is quite possible to do it yourself. Do not be afraid, you will not make it worse.
Instructions
Step 1
Before proceeding with the adjustment of the brakes, make sure that it is really necessary. One of the reasons for the "false" need may be a loose brake mount. Check the mount and tighten if necessary. It is likely that this will be enough for you.
Step 2
If everything is ok with the brake mount, experiment with the positions of the adjusters on the brake levers. If you have not achieved anything positive from these actions, check the condition of the brake pads, perhaps they have serious defects, then replacing them would be the best option.
Step 3
So, if the brake pads are in order and the mount is stable and secure, screw the adjusters on the handles and turn the bike over.
Step 4
Spin the wheel and watch the disc if you have disc brakes. If you notice that the disc shows some irregularities, or the wheel forms a figure of eight, then the disc most likely touches something for something. Find this place and fix it.
Step 5
After that, take the hexagon and adjust the position of the brake pad relative to the disc. The best option is if you adjust the position to a 1 mm gap between the pads and the disc. Then spin the wheel again and make sure that the pads do not touch the disc when the brake is released, and when pressed, they should only touch the disc. If they touch the tire even a little, this is unacceptable.
Step 6
Spin the wheel as much as possible and press the brake lever sharply in order to test the brake sensitivity.
Step 7
If you have rim brakes, and the pads touch the tire, unscrew the cable mount with a hexagon, holding it by hand, then pull the cable and fix the mount and tighten. Turn the adjusters on the brake levers to complete the adjustment.
