Many people watch football from the perspective of fans or supporters. And there are those who do it for professional purposes, analyzing hundreds of video recordings of matches or traveling around the world to watch real football battles. These people are called soccer scouts. In principle, they are not much different from sports scouts in general.

Step 1

A football scout is the employee of a football club who is responsible for finding possible athletes for that club. Mostly and more valuable for a scout is the ability to find young athletes who are still unknown in wide circles or athletes from "non-football" powers (countries where football is not developed at a significant level).

Step 2

Any football club has its own hierarchy, albeit not entirely rigid. The top is represented by shareholders, sponsors and other members of the board of directors, who determine the budget, as well as the tasks of a particular team. Sadly, the results of this or that club largely depend on the amount of money invested. Next in the hierarchy are the sports director and marketing specialists. And although in the minds of the majority the coach is the main one in the team, he stands only after all the above structures. Together with him, equal or slightly lower positions are occupied by the players themselves, masseurs, physical training coaches and assistant coaches, etc. Somewhere nearby there are scouts who are often not remembered, but who, with good work, can bring tangible benefits to the team.

Step 3

The tasks assigned to the scouts are quite broad. They depend on the policies that are followed in the team. Some clubs place their bets exclusively on experienced and expensive players, others on their own students, and still others on unknown athletes who can fit into their tactical schemes. Accordingly, the scouts coordinate their actions with the coach, director and other representatives of the club. Although, in any case, the danger remains that even the biggest football star may not play in a particular club.

Step 4

The activities of a football scout can be described as follows: he is looking for a player, tracking his games and assessing the potential for his team. If all the advantages of the player outweigh the possible problems associated with his transfer, then the scout contacts him, the agent or the representative of the club in which the player is currently playing. Also, scouts in the most general sense can describe the terms of cooperation and the offer of the club, but the continuation of the negotiations is most often already dealt with by lawyers.

Step 5

To become a successful scout, a person must have the following qualities: initiative, ambition, contact, broad outlook. Knowledge of the topic is mandatory, and a person should not only be interested in football, but also engage in it in the past. Often, former athletes or coaches become scouts as they have extensive connections in the world of football. Knowledge of foreign languages is also important (although this applies more to Russian specialists).

Step 6

Scouting as a system has been developing dynamically lately. Special computer programs are being created that allow you to follow the players and discover new bright athletes. Among such programs are Scout 7, Wyscout, InstatFooball. These are very expensive programs for clubs with big money, but they allow you to evaluate players, without exaggeration, without getting up from your chair. But, no matter how smart and progressive technical innovations are, the human factor still remains the main one.

Step 7

Every scout is individual. As in other activities, scouts can perform work in different ways: some look at how a particular player will fit into the team, while others look at the individual skill of the athlete; some find out the character and moral-strong-willed qualities of the player, while others are only interested in his professional qualities. You can become successful regardless of the tactics you choose. The main thing is love for what you do, the ability to predict and a little bit of luck.
