Instructions
Step 1
The specifics of winter cycling are obvious: snowdrifts, frost, wind, snowfalls, roads sprinkled with salt. It is important to keep all of this in mind when equipping and caring for your bike after a ride. For winter driving, your two-wheeled vehicles can be equipped with studded or regular tires with deep tread. It depends on the terrain, riding style and your own preference.
Step 2
Extend the wing as far as possible to cover the BB. Lubricate all mechanisms thoroughly. Use a liquid lubricant to lubricate derailleur cables and chains to improve their functionality in cold weather. Change oil to winter oil in oil shock absorbers, pump air in pneumatic ones.
Step 3
Remember not to wash your bike just before riding. Water, getting inside the mechanisms, will freeze and disable them. Remove snow from your bike after riding. If you've been walking in the woods, just wipe it down with a dry cloth. After driving around town, wash your bike with automotive shampoo. Then lubricate all parts so that the grease drives out all the water.
Step 4
Dress for your winter walk in layers. Underwear should be made of polypropylene or polyester. It will allow moisture to pass through while remaining dry. It is undesirable to wear cotton underwear, as it absorbs moisture and can cause hypothermia of the body.
Step 5
The next layer is pants and a sweatshirt made of Polartec or fleece, which perfectly retain heat and wick moisture out. Top with a slightly padded windbreaker and breathable pants. Put on gloves on your hands, and mittens on top, so your fingers will freeze less.
Step 6
It is better to wear cycling shoes on a half-woolen sock, and on top of a cycling shoe - a woolen sock made of dog or goat hair and ski boot covers. For protection from the cold of the head and face, a balaclav mask with ski goggles and a helmet are suitable.
