Many skiers decide to buy a new pair. But sharpening is much cheaper than new sports equipment. In doing so, she can eliminate all aspects that you were unhappy with. There are three options for sharpening skis. You can take your equipment to a professional workshop. There, experienced specialists will carry out a full recovery cycle for your skis. This procedure is very effective but expensive. Therefore, you can order only rough turning from the master, and do the finishing touches yourself. Or you can take over the whole process of sharpening skis.

Step 3

Before starting the actual sharpening process, prepare the ski sliding surface. Make sure there are no bumps or dimples on it. Eliminate irregularities, if any. Fill the holes with special glue or epoxy. Grind the bumps with an emery stone. It is better to do this in the workshop and not only after the season, but at least once during it. This will remove the metal that has been scratched and damaged by the stones.

Usually the edges on new skis are well sharpened at a 90 ° angle. This is quite enough for amateur riding. You can change the sharpening angle from 0.5 ° to 5 °, depending on what professional riding style you prefer.

Step 5

Lock the ski in an upright position with the sliding surface away from you. Use a continuous file guide to cut the entire surface of both edges. Polish your skis with a diamond file or abrasive stone. In non-working areas, it is better to round off the edging with a soft abrasive bar. Then the skis will not cling to the snow.
