To enjoy ice skating, you need sharpening. It is not always possible to turn to professionals to perform this procedure, and then you have to sharpen skates at home. There are two ways of sharpening - with and without a groove.

It is necessary

  • - emery
  • - round file
  • - fine-grained bar

Instructions

Step 1

To sharpen skates at home, prepare a regular emery (electric motor, guide plate and grinding wheel). With its help, you need to make a groove (for new skates) or deepen it (for skates that are very blunt).

Step 2

After that, using a round file with a diameter of about ten millimeters, it is necessary to manually deduce the correct shape of the groove, while sharpening the edges at the same time. The gutter should be done with the expectation that its depth should be no more than 0.5-0.6 millimeters. It is equally important that the gutter does not roll over in any direction. In order to check this, it is necessary to impose a flat (necessarily flat) surface across the groove. It should be completely perpendicular to the blade (no more than 3 degrees deflection). After completing this procedure, you must use a fine-grained block to remove the burrs.

Step 3

Some people sharpen skates without a groove. This method is much easier. To sharpen skates at home without a groove (or, as they also call it, grooves), you also need an emery or a file (in the case of a file, you will have to make a lot of effort to sharpen skates). Moreover, both in the above and in this method, you need to pay attention to the fact that the tool steel hardness of the file is higher than the hardness of the alloy from which the blade is made. Having secured the skates, you need to start sharpening. The sharpening principle is simple - you need to sharpen the blade sole at right angles to its side walls.

Step 4

After sharpening, you need to check its correctness. It is not difficult to carry out this operation - you need to see how the skates stand on the surface of the ice. If everything is done correctly, then they will stand upright and even.

When sharpening skates, it should be remembered that the convenience and comfort of the skate will depend on their correct sharpening.
