Various ski models

The variety of ski models, and they are produced by about 40 companies, can be divided into three categories: ski for tourists, sports and special.

For "home use", of course, they take models from the first category. Also important are the length of the skis, the properties of the material from which they are made, weight, bindings and, finally, the riding experience of the future owner.

For a simple amateur-amateur and a person who has just embarked on the path of learning all the secrets of skiing, it is best to choose a model designed for low and medium riding speeds. One of the characteristic features of such skis is a soft canvas, due to this, they are less responsive to errors in the skier's technique.

The exceptions are people with a lot of weight, for them you need to take harder skis. For experienced skiers, rigid models are always selected that are more responsive to their actions while riding.

It is also important to choose skis for height and weight. So, if a person of average weight, you need to buy skis about 10 cm shorter than his height (this is primarily important for the selection of alpine skis). If the weight is below normal, then the optimal model will be shorter by 15-20 cm.

How to choose the right skis?

The right choice can also depend on where the person plans to use them. So, for descending steep mountains, it is better to choose skis shorter than the height. And the more the riding experience, the shorter the skis can be (up to reasonable limits, of course). If you plan to ride on flat terrain, the best option would be skis 15–20 cm taller than the skier. They will have less snow resistance, which will make the descent faster and less uncomfortable.

In order not to get confused by a beginner in skiing, you can give general advice on choosing a ski height. For an amateur, it is usually recommended to take skis no higher than 20 cm of their own height, and for experienced skiers - no more than 10 cm.

To match your skis to your own weight, it is best to get on the ski and make sure that it arches in the center to the floor. For children, skis are selected this way (without taking into account height). Here, the selection is carried out according to a pre-selected scheme: with a child weighing up to 20 kg - they buy skis 70 cm long, from 20 to 30 kg - 90 cm, 30-40 kg - 100 cm. adults.

As you can see, the best skis are those that suit a person individually. Over time and with experience, beginners themselves replace their first ski model with another one that is more suitable for their newfound skills.
