The Ukrainian women's movement Femen is known for its shocking actions. The activists of this organization did not pass their attention to London during the Olympic Games.
The place for the next action "Femen" was chosen crowded. This time the girls gathered near the famous Tower Bridge. Four Ukrainian women in the blink of an eye were topless and staged their "Arab Marathon", while shouting offensive slogans at the International Olympic Committee. True, the organization "Femen" failed to express its protest for a long time. Soon the activists were detained by the British police.
Femen have several tasks, which they are trying to accomplish with such unusual methods. Ukrainian girls are fighting in defense of women's rights, against sexual harassment and prostitution. Actions are being held for freedom of speech. Some of the girls' public appearances were for political reasons. At the London Olympics, Ukrainian activists demanded that the IOC officially prohibit participation in competitions in countries where Sharia law is in force. To achieve this, the girls decided to bare their breasts, having previously written slogans addressed to the IOC on it.
According to the Femen participants, the International Olympic Committee is flirting with radical Islamism, allowing athletes from Arab countries to take part in the Olympic Games, while in their homeland a woman can be stoned. Femen believes that the governments of Muslim countries, by sending their athletes to the Olympics, cover up the mass executions of disenfranchised women that take place in their countries. There are no real changes for the better in the position of women in the Islamic world. Ukrainian activists believe that this is unacceptable and call on IOC leaders to officially condemn violence against Muslim women, as it runs counter to the Olympic principles of peace and non-discrimination, including on the basis of gender.
