Alexander Tretyakov became the best skeleton player, thus he brought the Russian team to third place in the team competition.
Saturday (February 15, 2014) was a landmark for Russian fans. On this day, the Russian national team was able at the end of the day to rise immediately to third place after seventh in the medal standings. This event was largely helped by the gold medal received late at night in the men's skeleton. On the Sanki luge and bobsleigh track, three Russian athletes fought for Olympic medals at once: Alexander Tretyakov, Sergei Chudinov and Nikita Tregubov.
The main struggle for the first place unfolded between the Latvian and the Russian. Already at the end of the first day of the competition, the representative of Russia won for almost a second, setting a track record. Failure happened only during the third race, when Tretyakov made a small mistake and let the Latvian athlete Martins Dukurs pass ahead. But according to the results of four races, Alexander Tretyakov showed the best time - 3 minutes 44, 29 seconds, thereby securing himself a gold podium in the Olympics.
It is worth noting that Alexander Tretyakov has already successfully played for the Russian national team in Vancouver, where he successfully became a bronze medalist. After the Olympic victory, he became the first skeleton athlete who is also a world champion. The other two Russian athletes entered the top six, taking fifth and sixth places, repeating the result of the women's skeleton team.
