Euro is the football championship among European countries, held every 4 years under the auspices of UEFA. This is the third tournament, the final part of which will be hosted jointly by 2 countries. The first was the 2000 European Championship. Belgium and the Netherlands became its owners. The second was held in Austria and Switzerland in 2008. This time, in 2012, the matches will be held in Ukraine and Poland.
Instructions
Step 1
The championship will be held from June 8 to July 1, 2012. This will be the last tournament in which 16 teams will take part in the final. At the next championship, which will be held in 2016 in France, there will be 24 of them.
Step 2
The draw for the 2012 UEFA European Championship qualifiers took place on 7 February 2010 in Warsaw. For the first time, a new rating system for national teams was used, based on the results of the 2006 World Cup, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2008 tournaments. The national teams - a total of 51 teams - were divided into groups. As a result, 9 winners and the best team from among the 2nd place winners will take part in the Euro 2012 final.
Step 3
Four more teams received this right as a result of victory in the play-offs. They were held between the remaining 8 teams that took 2nd place in their groups. Thus, 16 teams were identified. Poland and Ukraine are the organizers of the tournament. Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Netherlands, Greece, England, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal - teams that have passed the qualifying selection.
Step 4
The matches will be held in 8 cities. In Ukraine, these are Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkov, Lvov; in Poland - Warsaw, Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw. The opening of the championship will take place in Warsaw, the closing - in Kiev.
Step 5
The draw for Euro 2012 was held on December 2, 2011 at the National Palace of Culture and Arts of Ukraine in Kiev. As a result, 4 groups of teams were identified. Group A - Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic. Group B - Holland, Denmark, Germany, Portugal. Group C - Spain, Italy, Ireland, Croatia. Group D - Ukraine, Sweden, France, England. The first game of the championship will take place on June 8 between the national teams of Poland and Greece in Warsaw. The Russians in the group stage of the championship will play their first match also on June 8 with the Czech team in Wroclaw. The next games - June 12 with the Poles, 16 with the Greeks - will be held in Warsaw.
