On the night of June 2–3, a “Velonnight” was held in the capital of Russia. In 2012, this bike ride in Moscow was dedicated to the anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, so the route passed through the places of military glory. Russian cyclists have the opportunity to take part in a night bike ride in St. Petersburg, which will take place on the night of July 14-15.
It is worth recalling that Velonoch was held in our capital for the 6th time. And it was invented by Sergei Nikitin, a history teacher from Moscow. In 2011, the event was attended by about 7000 people. In addition to Moscow, the action takes place every year in New York, Rome and St. Petersburg. This time, London has joined the bike ride for the first time.
The route "Velonochi-2012" in Moscow was as follows:
- Museum "Borodino Panorama";
- Church of the Intercession in Fili;
- House of Culture named after Gorbunov and plant named after Khrunichev;
- the estate of the Naryshkins;
- Krylatsky Hills and Yeltsin House;
- Workers' village;
- "Blizhnyaya Dacha" by Stalin;
- "House on Mosfilmovskaya" and the "Mosfilm" film studio;
- an observation deck on Vorobyovy Gory.
For all the participants of the St. Petersburg "Velonoch", which will take place in mid-July, they will prepare a trip under the motto "Mirror of the Baroque", or Specchi di Barocco.
The length of the route of the Petrograd Academic Cycle will be about 35 km. It will pass over almost flat terrain, but preparation still does not hurt. Participation in this bike ride is free, you need to register on the official Velonochi website. It is listed at the end of the article.
The registration for the action was supposed to open on June 14, but for some reason the registration is not open yet. Scroll the main page of the Velonochi website to the bottom, where you will see the sign “Registration”. To participate, you will need a bicycle, a pump, a helmet, just in case, a bicycle lock, a raincoat and a radio with headphones.
At the end of this event, a picnic awaits you, so it will be useful to bring homemade treats and sweets with you. You can return to the northern capital in the morning by train to the Baltic Station.
