It often happens that you need to measure the strength of an athlete's blow in training to establish some kind of records or just to report to the coach. There are three methods for determining this value.

It is necessary

  • - Target;
  • - accelerometer.

Instructions

Step 1

Use the law of conservation of potential and kinetic energy. We will need it to measure the force of impact on the target. First, attach a target with mass "m" to any gimbal. Strike and measure the value of its deflection "h". This can be done by using notches on the timber on which the makiwara is attached. The force of impact will be equal to the value of the formula "mgh", where g is the acceleration of gravity. With this method, you can measure the impact energy quite accurately. Also, this method is very effective for setting all kinds of records. And there, as a rule, the makiwara has an electronic sensor, which gives even greater accuracy.

Step 2

Apply a Doppler device. In this case, the target is attached in the same way as in the previous step. The force of impact here will be equal to the speed of the target, which propagates ultrasound. With the right approach, no calibration is required.

Step 3

Measure the energy (force) of an impact using precision triaxial or biaxial integral accelerometers. The results will be fairly accurate in this case. The main advantage of this method is that you can strike in absolutely any direction, with the exception of overhead strikes. Although you can simply change the design and measure the strength of such blows too.

Step 4

Use integral accelerometers with digital output as a measure of impact force. Their advantage is that they are more sensitive and you no longer need additional calibration. If the accelerometer has an analog output, then you need to turn on the value of the gravitational acceleration "g" for more accurate data on the impact force. The proposed measurement method solves the problem of reliability of the athlete's impact energy. All this can help in assessing the physical fitness of the athlete at the moment.
