The choice of ski poles is just as important as any other piece of equipment. Although beginner skiers are usually able to meticulously select their skis and boots for hours, and the choice of poles is limited to selection according to height. They are not interested in details - there would be something to rely on. And children generally buy sticks longer than necessary, so to speak, "for growth." But this is wrong, because your sporting achievements and the desire to improve your skills depend on how competently you have selected all the equipment.
Instructions
Step 1
Ski poles design. The choice of ski poles should be started knowing that they consist of a shaft, a handle, a loop for an arm, a foot and a tip.
Step 2
Material. Poles are made of lightweight and durable materials like carbon fiber or fiberglass. But such sticks are used mainly by experienced athletes and professionals. For a beginner skiing enthusiast, aluminum poles are suitable.
Step 3
The form. The shaft of the stick can have a cylindrical shape or be narrowed towards the bottom; in the second case, the stick is more stable due to the shift of the center of gravity upward.
Step 4
Length. According to this parameter, the sticks are selected taking into account the riding style. If your style is classic, then the poles should be 25-30 centimeters lower than your height, if you skate, then the difference with your height should be 15-20 centimeters.
Step 5
A pen. For its manufacture, plastic or non-slip materials are used, which, of course, are more convenient. Cork and leather are also used to make pens. Now they began to make handles of an anatomical shape with recesses for the fingers. The upper surface of the handle is made wide so that you can lean on the sticks.
Step 6
Hand loops. They are made from leather or synthetic materials. The length of the loops should be such that during the movement the skier's hand does not rest on the handle, but does not lie on the loop.
Step 7
Foot. This is the ring on which the stick rests. It is attached 5-7 centimeters from the end of the tip of the stick and is necessary so that they do not fall into the snow. The diameter of the foot is different: for dense snow it is 4-5 cm, for deep, loose "powder" - 10-12 cm. If you are going to ride on any snow, then choose a diameter of 6-8 cm.
Step 8
Tip. It uses carbide alloys, so handle your sticks carefully so you don't get hurt. Most often, the safest tip design is used - the reverse taper. For icy slopes, it is better to choose a “serrated crown”.
