Instructions

Step 1

Non-Olympic sports do not want to put up with this fact, and representatives of their international federations are constantly fighting for inclusion in the Olympic program. This struggle is not very easy, since no sport can be included in the Olympic program, unless something is excluded from there.

Step 2

The first Olympic Games included only nine sports, but over time, the program of the Olympic Games grew so much that situations arose that obliged the International Olympic Committee not only not to include new sports, but also to exclude existing ones.

Step 3

So, croquet and cricket, tug of war, polo, medals in which were played in the first half of the twentieth century, did not gain a foothold in the Olympic program. In the twenty-first century, softball and baseball have lost their status as Olympic sports, and boxing has held out with only one vote.

Step 4

Periodically, the IOC considers applicants for inclusion in the Olympic program, arranging demonstration performances during the Olympiads in sports that claim to be included in the Olympic list.

Step 5

There are several major groups of sports that continually claim to be Olympic. One of them is various martial arts. Wrestling, boxing, judo, taekwondo are already included in the Olympic program. The federations of sambo, karate, wushu, kickboxing and other martial arts constantly submit their applications to the IOC, but so far without much result.

Step 6

Many power sports, despite their popularity, also pass by the attention of the IOC representatives. So far, such widespread disciplines as arm wrestling, powerlifting and kettlebell lifting have not received an Olympic registration.

Step 7

Figure skating has long been included in the program of the Olympic Games, moreover, today it is an integral part of the modern Winter Olympic Games. Therefore, the disappointment of the representatives of the figure skating brothers, the sports dance federations, whose applications are traditionally ignored by the IOC, is understandable.

Step 8

The ambitions of intellectual sports such as chess, checkers and billiards are also considered hopeless. It is believed that the IOC is more inclined towards those types of sports that require physical activity.

Step 9

Nevertheless, despite the overcrowding of the Olympic program, some sports are still lucky. So, in recent years, various types of snowboard have been included in the program of the Winter Olympic Games, and golf has been added to the program of the Summer Olympic Games.
