At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the American couple Misty May-Trainor and Kerry Walsh won gold medals in beach volleyball and became three-time Olympic champions in the sport.
Misty May-Trainor and Kerry Walsh Jennings have been pairing since 2001. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Walsh finished 4th in the US volleyball team. And Misty Mae at the same Olympics was 5th in beach volleyball competitions, where she paired with Holly McPeak.
A year later, Carrie and Misty teamed up and began their triumphant march. At the following Olympics: Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), they were the best in beach volleyball and did not lose a single set.
Misty Mae was born in 1977 in Santa Monica to a family of professional athletes. His mother was a tennis player, and his father was a volleyball player. He was on the 1968 U. S. Olympic team. Misty started playing sports at the age of eight, her choice fell on classic volleyball. In 1998 she was named Athlete of the Year.
After graduating from the University of California with a degree in humanities and physical education, Misty Mae begins to play professionally in beach volleyball.
Today, May-Trainor is considered the record holder for the most competitions won and the second volleyball player in US history to earn a million dollars in her sports career.
Kerri Walsh Jennings was born in 1978, the son of a volleyball player and a baseball player. She started taking sports seriously at age 12. In 1996, Kerry entered Stanford University, where during her studies she became one of the best volleyball players in the student team, and since 1998 she has been on the US national team.
Kerry Walsh is the fourth American volleyball player to earn a million dollars. The athlete has two children, and the fans believed that the London Olympics would be her last. But after the victory, Kerry said she hopes to make the US Olympic team at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. If this happens, she will compete at the next Olympics with a new partner. Misty Mae-Trainor announced the end of her sports career.
