The coastal and mountain clusters are groups of sports facilities for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, located on the Black Sea coast and in the mountainous area near the village of Krasnaya Polyana. The distance between the clusters is 48 km.
Coastal cluster
The coastal cluster covers the territory of Adler and the Imereti Lowland along the Black Sea coast. The central facility of the coastal cluster is the Olympic Park, which combines all sports facilities, infrastructure facilities and a park area.
All arenas will be located in close proximity to each other. Up to 70 thousand visitors can be in the park at the same time The constructed facilities include a stadium, curling center, Adler Arena, Puck arena, Iceberg and Bolshoi winter sports palaces.
Mountain cluster
The mountain cluster is located near the village of Krasnaya Polyana. It includes: a complex for competitions in biathlon and ski sports, a complex for tobogganing sports, the Rosa Khutor center, the Russian Gorki complex and a park for extreme sports. All buildings in the Olympic Mountain Cluster have the same architectural appearance, including private and residential buildings. All this was done to ensure that Krasnaya Polyana was presented as a worthy venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In both clusters, hotels, various ancillary facilities and a new transport infrastructure for Sochi were built. The regions of Greater Sochi, the coastal and mountain clusters are also connected to each other by a new railway network of roads. It will take just 30 minutes to get from the mountain sites to the coastal sites by new railways.
In each cluster, an Olympic Village is under construction to accommodate athletes, guests and spectators. The way to the venue from the Olympic Village will take no more than 5 minutes and no more than 15 minutes in the mountain cluster.
The upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi have already been named the most compact in history, since you can get from any object in just a few minutes. The Paralympic Games in Sochi will be held at the same facilities as the Olympic Games, so the construction of sports facilities is being carried out taking into account the needs of athletes with disabilities. Currently, the availability of all facilities is estimated at 96%.
