Orienteering is a truly useful, exciting and versatile sport for people of all ages. Orienteering involves walking a certain distance and finding control points on it using a map and a compass.
Instructions
Step 1
In general, to do orienteering at the amateur level, you only need a desire. You can do it in the park, in the forest, and even in the city. The growing popularity of practicing this sport is due to their positive influence on the human body: harmonious physical development, strengthening of immunity, development of attention, memory and willpower. Orienteering can be called a traumatic sport with a stretch: distances are, of course, different in complexity, but injuries are very rare here. Another important advantage of such activities is that they are extremely fun and interesting. And as a bonus from such activities, the emergence of the ability to make quick decisions, the search for friends with the same interests and travel to other cities and even countries to compete is considered.
Step 2
Almost every city has orienteering clubs that organize local competitions and joint trips to starts in other cities. Both children and adults can enter this club and mass starts. In order to engage in sports orienteering at a professional level and reach certain heights at the international level, it is better for a child to start classes in a sports school or sports school. In Russia, mass starts "Russian Azimuth" are held, which gather a huge number of participants. The level of development of this sport in the country is demonstrated by Russian athletes who are invariably in the elite of the world orienteering sport.
Step 3
Orientation can be different, on which both the equipment of the athlete and the system of preparation for the competition depend. So, distinguish between day and night orientation, depending on the time of the competition. There are individual, group or relay competitions. Orienteering by jogging, skiing or cycling is also distinguished. There is also accurate orienteering or orienteering along the paths, where in a certain time you need to walk the distance, periodically determining which of the control points (CP) corresponds to the designation on the map and the legend (some of the control points installed on the ground may be superfluous).
Step 4
For orienteering, you need the following equipment: a tracksuit (nylon or T-shirt, pants, shields to protect the legs from branches and tall grass), spikes, a compass, a sports card, a description of control points (CP) with common symbols, chips (electronic devices) for markers at checkpoints (sometimes ordinary composters are used instead of them in the old fashioned way). The rest of the equipment depends on the type of orienteering: for cycling orienteering you need a bicycle and a special tablet, for skiing - skis, sticks and a tablet on the chest for a map, for night orientation you need a flashlight.
