Skates are a fairly simple type of winter sports equipment that requires minimal maintenance. It is enough to dry them, prevent the blades from corrosion and sharpen them. Sharpening skates is not the easiest procedure. Many beginners assume that it is enough to take a regular grinder or a block and sharpen the skate like a regular knife. It's not like that at all. After all, on the blade of the skate you need to carve a U-shaped groove.
It is necessary
- - file;
- - ordinary flat small file;
- - wooden block;
- - vice;
- - Super glue;
- - a hacksaw for wood.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a block of wood and make a cut on it, the width of which corresponds to the thickness of the skate blade. (L = Lк)
Step 2
Choose a file for work (aka a file with a round profile), which will have the shape of a cone. The larger diameter of the cone should be equal to the width of the skate blade.
Step 3
Now place the file inside the cut on the block and glue it with superglue to the block on one side. Make sure that the back of the file is not contaminated with glue. Sometimes you can do without glue, just by placing the file in the cut.
Step 4
Now clamp the skate in a vise so that the blade is clamped perpendicular to the horizon.
Step 5
Take the prepared tool, which consists of a file and a block. Start slowly and without pressure to drive this bar in one direction. The file should mark the U-shaped groove. When this happens, you can increase the pressure. Do not forget that the tool is fixed in the block with glue, so excessive pressure will ruin the structure. The main pressure should occur at the moment when the file goes forward with the tip of the cone.
Step 6
Repeat this action until a relatively deep U-groove appears on the skate. A depth of about 2-3 mm is needed.
Step 7
When the groove is ready, it is necessary to process the edges of the ridge with a regular flat file. All burrs and irregularities must be removed. If the blade has any damaged areas that have formed as a result of debris falling under the skates, then they must be grinded off with a flat file. If the surface of the blade is damaged, it must be straightened with a flat file before the groove is formed and cut after the blade has been corrected.
