Usually, the ear is washed in the presence of a foreign object or sulfur plug, which impairs hearing and causes discomfort to its owner. However, it is not safe to rinse at home, as improperly performing the procedure can damage the eardrum. To prevent this from happening, you need to follow the rules for washing the ear.
Instructions
Step 1
Before rinsing the ear, first of all, it is necessary to soften the sulfur plug with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil, which are instilled into the ear after preheating to 37 ° C. This procedure should be carried out within 5 days - 4 drops of warm oil should be instilled twice into the ear. In this case, the sulfuric plug will swell, which will lead to a slight and temporary deterioration in hearing. It is strictly forbidden to use cotton swabs or matches with cotton wool.
Step 2
If the softened and lubricated plug does not come out of the ear on its own, or does not come out but not completely, the ear canal can be gently flushed out. For the procedure, you need to use water not warmer or hotter than 37 ° C - otherwise, a person may feel at least nausea and dizziness. When the tympanic membrane is perforated, the water is replaced with disinfectant solutions such as furacilin, rivanol, or potassium permanganate.
Step 3
During the procedure for washing the ear, the person should sit, and a convenient tray should be placed near his neck, into which water will be poured. In order for the liquid to get directly into the ear canal, you need to pull the auricle up and back a little so that the passage is straightened as much as possible. For home rinsing, a syringe without a needle or a syringe is usually used, the capacity of which is from 100 to 150 milligrams.
Step 4
The tip of a syringe or syringe is inserted into the ear canal only 1 centimeter, but not further. The liquid should be directed with careful small jolts to the surface of the posterior superior wall of the auditory canal - it is strictly forbidden to press hard on the piston, since high pressure can damage the eardrum. When washing, the patient may feel an unpleasant noise from air bubbles mixing with water. At the end of the procedure, the patient's head should be tilted to allow the remaining fluid to drain freely, and then thoroughly dry the ear canal using cotton swabs. After that, it is advisable to visit an otolaryngologist who will confirm the removal of the sulfur plug.
