Instructions

Step 1

In the qualifying competition, which begins after the end of the FIFA World Cup and lasts for 2 years, groups are formed. It is carried out on the basis of the results shown by the teams in the previous European Championship and the qualifying stage of the World Championship. Within its qualifying group, each team plays one home and away game with the rest of the group. According to the results of all games played in each group, a winner is revealed. The teams that take the first or second place in their group pass the qualification. The national team of the country that hosts the championship will advance to the final automatically.

Step 2

The distribution of the final matches between the host cities is approved by the UEFA Supervisory Board 2 years before the start of the competition. Each city hosting the Championship games must have an infrastructure (telecommunication, hotel, transport and others) that meets the most modern requirements. When forming the final list of host cities, priority is given to their investment programs, which provide for financing the construction or reconstruction of facilities associated with the European football tournament.

Step 3

In the final, the teams, divided by drawing lots into 4 groups, play one game with other members of the group. For a victory in a match, a team gets 3 points, for a draw - 1 point. Group matches, except for the last two, can take place at different times. The teams that took the first and second places in the group go to the ¼ finals, where they play one elimination game with their rivals. In subsequent rounds, the same system applies. If the score is equal, an additional one is assigned by the end of regular time, then, in case of a draw, a penalty shootout is held.

Step 4

The team that wins the final receives gold medals, the title of European champion and the Henri Delaunay Cup, which it must keep until the next European Championship. The runner-up team will be awarded silver medals, while the losing semi-finalists will receive bronze medals.
