This sport was known back in the distant sixteenth century. Initially called the toboggan, the skeleton underwent a long evolution and in 1928 was presented under its present name at the II Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The history of this sport is very interesting. But its features are also interesting, because it is fascinating and individual in everything. This sport is one of the most dangerous sports. Despite the short existence of this sport, many eminent athletes laid down their heads on it.
Skeleton is a sport, the essence of which is to ride an athlete on an ice chute on a sleigh, lying on his stomach: the athlete lies on the sleigh head first and rolls down the mountain, and then the racing process itself takes place - with slides, inclines, deadly turns. Taxiing takes place with the help of special spikes on the boots.
The rules of the game are very simple - come to the finish line first. As of today, there are two skeletons. The first skeleton is a local one, held only on the territory of one of the countries, and the second is the Olympic one.
At the competition, various rules were introduced, thanks to which various traumatic situations can be avoided. Thus, the weight categories were determined for both men and women. For women, the maximum weight category is ninety kilograms, for men - one hundred and fifteen. In addition, various parameters of the distance, the speed of the sleigh and much more were determined.
This sport develops the physical qualities of a person, his mind, quick response to a change of environment. Physically, a person strengthens his body, thanks to which he can regulate the distance on the track. Mentally, a person develops endurance, which helps him to endure the hardships of high speed, fearlessness, because not every person can endure a flight at such speeds and show the necessary speed of reaction to a change in the environment, because the slopes are quickly replaced by falls, and a person in these difficult conditions needs to quickly maneuver so as not to perish.
This sport is of interest to many athletes of different ranks. But not everyone runs the risk of doing it. Because this sport is fraught with many dangers and difficulties through which the athlete must pass and go to the finish line first.
