What is SAMBO

The term "sambo" itself is an abbreviation and stands for SAM-protection Without Weapons. Thus, the name itself contains the principle of sambo - self-defense, because sambo does not teach to fight, but only to defend. This is very correct from a psychological point of view, because a person trained in the correct traditions of this martial arts develops physical skills and realizes the need to be able to defend oneself, and not attack. The founders of this sport put it piece by piece, borrowing various techniques, techniques and styles from other types of martial arts, such as jujitsu, boxing, judo, sumo, and other international types of wrestling.

What SAMBO gives

Like many types of single combats, SAMBO has its own philosophy, separate teaching methods. Sambo trains willpower and endurance, builds character. This is a very good physical fitness, which is not excruciating or painful (as, for example, in various types of combat). Indeed, according to statistics, SAMBO is one of the least traumatic types of martial arts, because it is a little static, but it cannot be called boring. In modern conditions, knowledge of sambo techniques helps to protect oneself and one's loved ones, and often preserve life, because it is not strength that wins in the fight, but the knowledge and dexterity that will be taught in this section.

Age restrictions in sambo

Children from 6-7 years old are taken to the preparatory sambo section, however, at this stage they are trained in physical training and minimal self-defense techniques. Already more serious training begins at the age of 8, while professional training will begin only for 10 years. Both boys and girls can be engaged. SAMBO does not have a maximum age, many older people are already taking part in SAMBO competitions in veterans. But the earlier the child starts classes, the stronger his character and better physical fitness will be.

Where to go to practice SAMBO

If there is a desire to really engage in this kind of martial arts professionally, it is necessary to contact the regional, city or district sports school or health and fitness centers in which there is a sambo section on the basis of a sports school. There are, of course, private coaching bases, but only a sports school will provide an opportunity not only to learn self-defense techniques, but also to show their achievements at competitions of various levels, including world ones.

What is needed for sambo training

As in other sports sections, it is necessary to provide a medical certificate from a pediatrician about the good health of the child, which allows him to engage in such a sport. Athletic form is also important, because with it the child will have more confidence and a sense of complete participation, as well as protection from injury. The SAMBO uniform includes a sambo jacket (similar to a judo kimono), shorts (short, without zippers and pockets, preferably special ones), wrestling boots with soft soles. The quality of the form is of great importance, because some grips in sambo are carried out by grabbing the jacket, and special shoes will help not to slip on the tatami. The rest of the requirements depend on where to go, at the sports school you will still need to submit a copy of the birth certificate and a photo on your personal card. If necessary, if the group is paid, you will need to pay the appropriate amount to the cashier.
