It was very important for the South Korean city to become the capital of the 2018 games - this was already the third attempt. For the first time, Pyeongchang claimed to host the games in 2010 and even surpassed the Canadians in the first round, but in the second round, three votes were decisive, and Vancouver became the capital of the games. The second attempt took place when choosing the city for the 2014 White Olympics - this time the Russians bypassed the Koreans by a margin of only four votes.

Meanwhile, Pyeongchang stubbornly pursued his goal. All these years, since 2002, the construction of Olympic facilities has been going on in the country, as if the decision to host the games had been made. During this time, some objects have ceased to be innovative, and by 2018 they may well become obsolete. Nevertheless, the desire of the South Korean city to finally become the capital of the Olympic Games was taken into account by the members of the IOC.

An important role in the voting was also played by the fact that in Asia the Winter Olympics were held only 2 times so far, and in Japan. In France and Germany, the Olympics are held much more often, and many residents oppose this grandiose sports festival, which disrupts the peaceful course of life.

It took only one round of voting to determine the winner. The city of Pyeongchang received 63 votes out of 96, the French Annecy - only 7, the German Munich - 25. The representatives of the Korean delegation were delighted, this victory was well deserved and natural.

South Korea has already invested more than $ 1.4 billion in infrastructure development, 7 Olympic facilities have been built. Expenditures are planned for another 8 billion, and these will be investments in the country's sports future. South Korea's participation in the race has already helped create the conditions for sports for thousands of athletes, many will be able to succeed and bring glory to their country.
