Russia was able to regain the title of the country-leader in pair figure skating four years later.
On February 12, 2014, sets of Olympic medals in pair figure skating were played. The performance of Russian athletes was followed with interest not only by the spectators sitting in the stands of the skating rink in Sochi, but also by the whole world. To participate in this Olympiad, Russia was able to present three pairs of participants, two of whom were able to climb the steps of the prize podium.
The Russian figure skaters faced a difficult and responsible task - they needed to return the world leadership in this sport to the country. Indeed, at the last Olympics, which was held in Vancouver, Russia for the first time in recent years was left without any medals in pair figure skating. Now, thanks to the victory of Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, Russia has regained the title of the country in which the world's best skaters are trained.
The last warm-up was attended by 4 couples from three countries - Russia, China and Germany. After the perfect skating of Ksenia Stolbov and Fyodor Klimov, who won Olympic silver medals, another Russian couple took to the ice. The stands actively supported the Russian figure skaters, and after their perfect performance, it was difficult for athletes from other countries to focus on their program. The annoying two falls of the German figure skaters Alena Savchenko and Robin Szolkovy left them no chance in the fight for the highest award, as a result, multiple world and European champions received only a bronze Olympic medal.
