The Russian said that he did not give up hopes of returning to Formula 1 in the future, after he lost his place as a Williams prize driver. Sergey Sirotkin made his Formula 1 debut in 2018 by signing a contract with Williams, but earned only one point per season and finished last in the individual competition.
Williams decided not to renew the contract with Sirotkin. For the next season, the Williams will be paired with George Russell and Robert Kubica.
Sirotkin did not deny that it is possible that he will return to Williams for the role of a reservist. At the same time, according to him, the ultimate goal is to return to Formula 1.
Answering the question of what he intends to do next, Sirotkin said: “I will try to return. I will do everything to return.
It really seems to me that for obvious reasons I could not prove myself properly, could not show what I am capable of. It is difficult to describe, but inside there is a feeling as if a fire is burning, somewhere deep, through which I cannot appear here and now.
Believe me, I've learned a lot this season, even if you don't see it. This season has made me stronger as a driver and as a person."
Sirotkin added that he hopes for Williams' progress in 2019, even if he is not on the team. “I hope so,” he said. “I know how hard we all worked. I'm not even speaking for myself, but for all the guys. Personally, I will be very happy if smiles return to their faces. I will be glad to see the result of the work that we have done together with them."
