Every year on June 23, the world celebrates Olympic Day. In 2012, it will be held on the eve of the London Olympics, therefore it is of particular importance. In Russia, this holiday will be celebrated for the twenty-third time, many sports events are timed to coincide with it.

June 23rd was chosen by the International Olympic Committee to commemorate the day of its creation on June 23, 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Representatives of all ages participate in sports events dedicated to this holiday. It is in these competitions, like in no other, that the slogan that the main thing in sport is not victory, but participation is justified. The All-Russian Olympic Day is a real sports event, therefore it is designed for mass attendance of the sports events held.

The decision to hold the XXIII All-Russian Olympic Day dedicated to the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London was made on April 18 at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Russian Olympic Committee. All regional Olympic councils, as well as executive bodies in the field of physical culture and sports of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation were recommended to hold sports and physical education events on June 23. The main goal is to use this day to involve the population in physical education and sports and to promote the ideals and principles of the Olympic movement.

Sports events will be held in all regions of Russia. As a rule, they reflect local national sports traditions, and they take place over several days. Competitions are held in a variety of sports - athletics, volleyball, basketball, kettlebell lifting, chess and other sports disciplines. Winners and participants are awarded diplomas, prizes and souvenirs.

In Moscow, the Luzhniki sports complex will be the center of the celebrations. There will be twenty-five sports and entertainment grounds at the service of visitors. Various competitions will be held, artists will perform. Football matches with the participation of stars will be held, and dozens of Olympic gold medalists are expected to attend the event. A variety of souvenir products will be presented.
