In the Euroleague Basketball 2011/2012 final, the Russian CSKA met, which beat Panathinaikos (Greece) in the semifinals, and the Greek Olympiacos, which got a ticket to the final match after defeating Barcelona (Spain). CSKA, who had every chance to become the best club in Europe, for the third time in their history, having missed a decisive attack in the last seconds of the game, lost to the Greeks with a very offensive score 61:62.

Step 1
In the first quarter CSKA was strong on the defensive. The army team got most of the points from the implementation of penalties; there were only 2 accurate hits in the attack. The main match of the tournament was started by the Greeks, and soon Pero Antic opened the scoring. Further, soldier Ramunas Siskauskas equalized the points, but a hit from behind the arc by Vassilis Spanulis brought the Greek team ahead with a score of 2: 5. Thanks to the efforts of Milos Teodosic and Andrei Kirilenko, who implemented two free throws, the Russian team came out ahead with a score of 6: 5. During the last minutes, accurate shots by Kostas Papanikolaou and Alexei Shved followed, and Nenad Krstic scored three of four free throws. The break began when the score was 10: 7 in favor of the army team.
Step 2
In the second quarter CSKA continued to dominate. Olympiacos responded to accurate hits from Kirilenko, Krstic and Alexander Kaun's dunk with two realized free throws from Papanikolaou and an effective throw from Spanulis. Bringing the score to 16:11 in their favor, the army team continued the offensive: Teodosic made three three-point shots in a row. The reaction of the Greeks was Papanikolaou's dunk and one of Spanoulis's two free throws. However, this did not help to reverse the situation, the score was 25:14. This was followed by two accurate hits from army player Dariusz Lavrynovych, effective throws by Kirilenko and Siskauskas. The Greeks responded with a three-point shot from Papanikolaou, an accurate hit by Spanoulis and one of two realized free throws. As a result, CSKA's advantage increased to 13 points. In the last minutes, Lavrynovych scored one of three penalty points, and Shved's throw, which coincided with the final siren, was not counted. By the beginning of the third quarter, CSKA came up with a score of 34:20 in their favor.
Step 3
The third quarter began with two accurate hits by Krstic, a successful throw from Antic and an exchange of three point hits between Teodosic and Papanikolaou. After two free throws, scored by Antic, three-point shots of Spanulis, army team Viktor Khryapa and Andrey Kirilenko followed. Free throws by Spanulis and Antic and the ensuing effective attacks by Siskauskas, Gordon and Shved led to the score 53:34. During the last ten minutes, the Greeks have become noticeably more active and have become more confident in their attack. Marco Keshel scored one of two free throws, Spanoulis scored an effective shot and Evangilios Manzaris scored from behind the arc in the last second. Thus, the third quarter remained with the Greeks, and the total score of the match was 53:40 in favor of CSKA.
Step 4
In the fourth quarter, the Greeks did not allow them to seize the initiative, and after a throw from behind the arc by Kostas Slukas and a hit by Georgios Printezis, the score was 53:45. Further, the attacks of the army began to fail one after another. The long-awaited effective attack by Siskauskas was crossed out by two free throws, scored by Printezis, and another accurate throw. The total score of the match was 55:52. On two accurate free throws, performed by Krstic, and an effective throw from Kirilenko's shield, the Greeks responded with an accurate throw by Papanikolaou from behind the arc. During the free throws at the end of the last quarter, Teodosic and Kirilenko hit one of two throws, but Papanikolaou, who successfully converted three of four free throws, narrowed the gap to one point: the score was 61:60. A second before the end of the match, Printezis threw the ball into CSKA's basket and brought Olympiacos a victory with a score of 61:62.
