The UEFA Champions League is the main club competition. The best European teams converge in it, dozens of clubs are fighting for the right to become the owner of the Champions Cup. The winner will carry the title of the strongest team in Europe throughout the year.
Instructions
Step 1
The strongest teams of European countries get into the Champions League. In 2012, the Chelsea team became the winner of the tournament, defeating Bayern Munich in a bitter struggle. In the new 2012/2013 season, 76 teams will participate, representing 52 football associations of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), from the English Union of European Football Associations, abbreviated as UEFA).
Step 2
The number of places in the draw for each country is based on the UEFA odds table compiled after the 2011/2012 season. Depending on the odds, countries can put up from 1 to 4 teams for the tournament. Russia will be represented by the teams Zenit and Spartak.
Step 3
The draw for the tournament is traditionally held at the UEFA headquarters. In 2012/2013 it will be held before each stage of the tournament. The draw for the first and second rounds of the qualifying part of the tournament will take place on June 25, for the third round - on July 20. The draw for the knockout round will take place on 10 August. The group stage rivals will be determined in Monaco on 30 August. Finally, the draw for the 1/8 finals of the tournament (playoffs) will take place on December 14, and for the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals on March 13, 2013.
Step 4
When drawing lots, certain nuances are taken into account. Thus, clubs representing the same football federation cannot get into pairs and groups of the group part of the tournament. The strongest teams automatically fall into the groups first, taking into account their club rating. This is done to prevent the strongest teams from meeting in the group stage. After the first teams are determined, the draw for the weaker clubs begins, and as a result all the places in the groups are filled. This approach increases the likelihood that the strongest teams will meet in the finals. In addition, even the weakest club has every chance of reaching the final, showing a good game.
