The Russian national football team performed extremely unsuccessfully at the Euro 2012 championship: the team could not even get out of the group, which was considered the lightest. Coach Dick Advocaat left office the same day without comment. The appointment of a new, strong mentor is one of the important factors thanks to which the national team will be able to rehabilitate itself on the world football arena.
The defeat of the Russian national team at Euro 2012 looks even more annoying against the background of the fact that its coach Dick Advocaat was one of the highest paid in the tournament. At the same time, the effectiveness of his work hardly corresponds, without exaggeration, to the fabulous fee. Now the team needs a new mentor - an experienced and strong leader who could later turn the tide in favor of Russia.
Guus Hiddink could theoretically cope with such a task, who at one time was able to lead the team to impressive results. At Euro 2008, the Russian team won bronze: it was the most impressive football success in the last 20 years. Currently, the Dutch coach works in the Dagestan club "Anji". However, this position is unlikely to prevent him from working with the Russian team.
An equally bright candidate is Luciano Spalletti, who now holds the post of head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg and at the same time demonstrates very decent results at the national level. Spalletti not only achieved great success in his homeland, helping his club to win the Italian Cup twice and many other awards, but also brought his Russian wards to a qualitatively new level.
Another Italian, Fabio Capello, may become the head coach of the Russian national football team. In his recent past, he worked with the English national team, as well as with the most prestigious clubs in the world, including Real Madrid and Juventus. Capello currently has no long-term contracts and is looking for suitable and promising proposals.
Still, there is a Russian master among the brightest candidates. The legendary Valery Gazzaev is increasingly called the potential mentor of the national team. The rich experience of this coach, perhaps, will be able to lead the Russian team to the long-awaited victories.
