Gimbarr is a street fitness area in which a horizontal bar is the main sports equipment. The masters of the style are able to demonstrate really amazing tricks on it. In this case, it is important not only how skillfully the exercise is performed, but also whether it is beautifully done.
History of the gimbarr style
Despite the fact that in some countries the gimbarr style is gaining popularity only at the present time, it cannot be called a fashionable novelty. It originated more than 55 years ago in the capital of Colombia, Bogota. The founders of gimbarr were a few ordinary guys from a poor area, each of them loved to perform tricks on the horizontal bar, and each tried to outdo the other. They all constantly improved their skills, so their stunts looked amazing, which ultimately led to the popularity of the style in general. Indeed, when you see what the gimbarr master performs on the horizontal bar, it is simply breathtaking!
Each of the founders of gimbarr from the very beginning had their own recognizable style of performance, and today this is reflected in the division of the style into substyles.
Gimbarr started out as a typical gymnastics exercise, but over time has acquired its own special techniques, and today its classic figures have gone far from the original.
Many gimbarr fans have learned about him from the internet. A stormy wave of popularity overtook this course of street training in the period from 1998 to 2002, it was then that they became interested in the style not only in their native country, but all over the world. At the same time, the very concept of independent training, for which you do not need to buy a gym membership, began to gain popularity, and gimbarr came in handy here.
Today gimbarr is recognized as the national sport in Colombia, money is allocated from the state budget to support it, and talented masters perform all over the world. Open championships are held, which are broadcast on the central TV channels of Colombia.
Features of gimbarr
For training, the gimbarr uses a regular metal bar: a simple yard bar for pull-ups. To masterfully perform gimbarr elements, you need to have not only strength, but also flexibility and dexterity at the same time. Good coordination of movements is a quality that cannot be dispensed with either. But to become a truly outstanding athlete, there is not enough perseverance and hard work, you also need to apply a creative approach!
There are many elements in gimbarr gymnastics, among them there are some that can only be performed by a small company of a few people.
In Russia, there is a variation of gimbarr: this is a style that is called crossbar.
The age of the trainees varies. On the horizontal bar you can see both children and middle-aged people, and even old people!
Conventionally, gimbarr is divided into several styles, but if you are just starting out, then it is too early to think about this division: first you need to master the basic skills, and they are the same for all styles. Not being able to complete the "base", you can not move on to more complex elements: it can simply be dangerous.
