Karate and judo are Japanese martial arts, which, in the eyes of an unprepared person, are not much different, so it is difficult to make a choice between the two. They are actually different systems that use different techniques. To choose one of them, you need to decide on the purpose of studying the martial arts.

Karate

Karate, unlike judo, is an ancient martial art that uses traditional Japanese techniques. It does not use additional tools, to fight the enemy you need only your own strength and dexterity. Karate is called a system of defense and attack, but for the second, this art is more suitable. It uses strikes, throws, grabs and other techniques with short-term contact. It is important to deliver precise, precise, powerful strikes with different parts of the body at well-thought-out points in order to disarm the enemy.

Karate is a rather painful sport, since you have to experience all the punches and throws on yourself. It increases the strength of a person and allows you to make the most of it when attacking. To demonstrate skills, not only confrontations between opponents are used, but also other techniques: breaking bricks or boards. Karate is a spectacular sport, for which beginners often choose it without thinking about its possible shortcomings.

Judo

Judo is a modern martial art that was specially developed for defense in the early 20th century based on jujitsu. Judo also uses only a person's own strengths without the use of weapons, but with a different purpose - for protection. Judo techniques are significantly different from karate: these are all kinds of grips, painful techniques, creases, which are designed to neutralize the enemy, and not fight him. There are no punches in judo, and this is a big plus if you want to teach your child the martial art. Children often do not understand what kind of pain powerful kicks or punches are inflicted, and are ready to demonstrate their skills to peers at school or in the yard.

This combat system teaches you to use the enemy's strength to the maximum in order to direct it against him. The name of this art speaks for itself - "The Soft Way". If karate increases power, then judo - endurance and flexibility.

Judo is not a spectacular sport, it does not have beautiful poses and spectacular techniques, it is not divided into styles and schools, but the system of belts is the same all over the world, and if you move to another place, you will not have to study all over again due to the discrepancy in techniques. Karate is represented by several schools and you have to choose one of them.

Judo, in essence, is easier than karate: people of any physical fitness and any age are suitable for learning it. Basic defensive techniques can be learned quickly, and it takes a long time to hone your karate skills.
