Roland Garros is one of four annual tournaments of the highest category, gathering tennis players whose names must be looked for in the top lines of the rankings of the best rackets in the world. This year it has already been held 111 times and will last from May 27 to June 10. At the same time, there are separate tournaments for men and women in singles and doubles, as well as a mixed pairs competition.

In the men's singles, the French Open has reached the quarterfinals. The easiest to move along the tournament grid is last year's winner of this competition - Argentinean Rafael Nadal. In four matches, he did not give a single set to his opponents. In the last meeting, Rafael did not treat his compatriot in a friendly manner - Juan Monaco was completely defeated with a score of 6: 2, 6: 0 and 6: 0. The next victim, apparently, will be the Spaniard Nicholas Almagro - Nadal looks very powerful at this tournament. His constant rival in recent years, Roger Federer from Switzerland, also made it to the quarterfinals, although he spent much more time in each match. These two occupied the second and third lines in the list of "seeded" tennis players, with Novak Djokovic on the first. It is his experts who predict Nadal as rivals in the final match, and so far the Serb justifies such assessments, beating all rivals in three games. Alas, the last of the Russian tennis players in this tournament, Mikhail Youzhny, was eliminated in the third round.

In the quarterfinals of the women's tournament, there is one of our tennis players - Maria Sharapova made her way to this stage, losing one set to her opponent for the first time. But she took revenge for the departure of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Maria Kirilenko, the culprit of these sad events, Klara Zakopalova from the Czech Republic. In the next match, Estonian Kaia Kanepi is waiting for her. Among the surprises of the women's section of Roland Garros, one can note the defeat in the first two rounds of the Williams sisters, as well as the entry into the quarterfinals of Yaroslava Shvedova, the only undisclosed tennis player at this stage of the competition. Yaroslava stands for Kazakhstan, but has dual citizenship and lives in Moscow, so we have a reason to rejoice and cheer for our compatriot. Now she has to play with Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.

Yaroslava Shvedova also performs in the women's doubles, where her partner is the American Vanya King. This pair will have a match for reaching the semifinals with the all-Russian pair Maria Kirilenko - Nadezhda Petrova.
