Instructions

Step 1

Determine the side through which you will be comfortable doing somersaults. Most often this is the one with which the "wheel" is performed. Many gymnasts are comfortable with the right side.

Step 2

Master the swing of your hands - this basic element should be brought to automatism. Perform it in the position of a fighting stance (the so-called boxing stance), while looking forward. Then begin to smoothly lower your right hand down and forward, and lift your left up, bending around the body from below. Tilt your body to one side and, bending your left leg, grab it with your right hand. Raise your left hand at this moment. Perform this movement about 30 times.

Step 3

Reinforce the movement by lying on the mats. To do this, imitate the "sun" element, only when it is completed, draw in your legs with your right hand and spin on your back like a top.

Step 4

Learn to do grouping. Squat down and wrap your arms around your legs - this is the grouping movement. It can be performed with both front and back leg gripping.

Step 5

Push off, turning with your right side with a running start, with both legs tucked in. This movement can be performed with one leg and a simultaneous swing of the other, or by pushing off with both legs at once - it all depends on which is more convenient for you. For a good push off, place your left foot on the floor with your heel and then roll onto your toes. In this position, it is more difficult to make a strong push, but its duration will increase, and the swing with the right leg will be fuller. To go from the takeoff run to the side somersault, you need to perform a small jump with a swing of the arms.

Step 6

Practice getting out of the tuck by straightening both legs together or alternately. Try to "fly out" as high as possible to land on almost straight legs.
