The world's strongest chess players - Israeli Boris Gelfand and Indian Viswanathan Anand - were unable to identify a leader in the fight for the title in 2012. Their confrontation ended with a score of 6: 6. According to the regulations, in such cases, a tie-break is assigned - four additional parties in which the time limit is limited.

The champion was not known until the last minute, because three of the four tie-break meetings ended in a draw. But in the second game, Anand, playing with white pieces, won. Thanks to this, he retained the championship title and once again proved that the more experienced and balanced wins.

The match took place in Moscow and ended in May. Who is he - the strongest chess player on the planet?

Contrary to popular belief, Anand is a first name, not a surname. He was fortunate enough to be born into a family that belongs to one of the highest Indian castes in 1969. The boy started playing chess at the age of five, and was first coached by his mother. At the age of 14, he became the champion of the country, although in those years there were no strong chess players in India.

At the age of 17, the talented young man received the title of grandmaster and attracted the attention of the whole world, because he won the champion title among juniors. From 2000 to 2002, he was the world champion and among adults - in a tournament organized by FIDE. But there was also another champion - Kramnik, and he received this title at the competitions held by an alternative organization - PSA.

In 2006, only FIDE remained, and Kramnik was the strongest athlete. In 2007, Viswanathan Anand proved to be stronger and since then has not missed the championship title.

In the chess rating, Anand crossed the 2800 mark. Only four chess players in the world managed to reach such heights: Kasparov, Kramnik, Topalov and Viswanathan. Thanks to Anand's achievements, chess became popular in his home country. This man has won an Oscar five times in his professional field.
