The bicycle has long become a universal urban transport, but many, going on hikes, take an iron friend with them. A bicycle on a hike is, of course, great, but sometimes it can be difficult to transport it. This is oversized baggage, about which each of the carriers has its own, sometimes contradictory, opinions.

Soft bike case
Instructions
Step 1
Transportation by train. This is the easiest option. The bike is checked out as baggage in the category "Cargo and animals". The doors of the electric trains are large, so the bike can be easily carried into the carriage. There is enough space for a bicycle, you can put it so that it does not interfere with anyone in the carriage.
Step 2
Transportation by long-distance train. According to the rules of Russian Railways, a passenger can carry 36 kg of cargo for free, including a bicycle, which, however, must be disassembled for this. The most convenient thing is to purchase a special soft cover, then disassemble the bike and put it there. If you want to load the bike, and the conductor does not allow you to do this, then it is better not to argue, but go straight to the head of the train. The conflict, as a rule, is immediately settled.
Step 3
Transportation by plane. Transporting a bicycle by plane can be tricky. Many carriers accept sports equipment for a fee, which usually ranges from 10 to 40 euros - this is the easiest option. Some airlines agree to accept bicycles on board, but in limited quantities, so when you issue a ticket, you must charmingly indicate its availability. Airline packing requirements for bicycles vary, but a soft case is almost always sufficient. It is very important to familiarize yourself with the carrier's rules before purchasing a ticket, not after. Some airlines do not accept bicycles as luggage at all.
Step 4
At the airport, you may have problems. Security services are not always willing to let people with bicycles into the terminal building. According to the rules, they cannot detain you, since there are no weapons or explosives, so just calmly explain to them that the bike is your luggage, show your ticket or printout if the ticket is electronic. Also, at the verification stage, some large keys or an eccentric axle may be taken away, considering them to be weapons.
Step 5
Transportation in the city. In most cases, it is easier to ride a bike in the city than to transport it on public transport, but sometimes it can be necessary. The most convenient thing is if the bike is packed in a cover - then there are almost never problems, it is enough to pay for the baggage transportation. When it is not packed, you can only rely on a kind conductor, because if he asks you to leave the vehicle, he will be right.
Step 6
To transport a bicycle, you need to be able to assemble and disassemble it. It is better to practice doing this in advance, so as not to mess with it in a panic in the middle of the station crowd 15 minutes before the train departure. Remove the pedals first. Then unscrew the front wheel. Next, remove the headlight, computer and horns. Unscrew the steering wheel and tie it to the frame, do not remove the cables! Remove or lower the saddle as much as possible - at your discretion.
